Scientific Advisor — Health Behavioral Sciences, Physical Activity & Prevention
Prof Dr. Claudio R. Nigg is the Ordinarius of Health Science Department at the Institute of Sport Science at the University of Bern. With his academic background in psychology and kinesiology at the University of Calgary and a PhD in psychology from the University of Rhode Island, he bridges behavioral science with health promotion and physical activity research.
He has held leading professorships in Public Health Sciences and Health Promotion at the University of Hawaii before returning to Switzerland. His research focuses on motivation for physical activity, health behavior change, prevention of obesity in children and adults, and evidence-based interventions across the lifespan. With more than 20,000 citations, his work is internationally recognized and has shaped global guidelines in prevention and public health.
Prof Dr. Nigg has consistently emphasized the practical application of science: not only advancing theoretical models but also ensuring their translation into community settings, public health strategies, and individual coaching. This dual orientation towards evidence and implementation reflects AYUN’s own ambition - to merge cutting-edge science with practical, individualized longevity solutions.
With his comprehensive expertise in behavior change, physical activity promotion, and sustainable health interventions, Prof. Nigg will support AYUN in developing its vision of personalized longevity. He approaches health not only from the perspective of performance and prevention but also in the broader societal context of well-being, equity, and evidence-based future medicine.
It is precisely this blend of academic excellence, applied prevention science, and visionary thinking that makes Prof. Nigg such a valuable addition to AYUN’s Scientific Advisory Board.
